C&P Files Amicus Brief Endorsing Speedy Trial Date for President Trump Jan. 6 Case
Earlier today, Clinton & Peed filed an amicus brief as local counsel for nearly a dozen former judges and senior legal officials in support of the government’s proposed trial date and schedule in the criminal case against Donald Trump pending in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia alleging criminal interference in the 2020 election. The brief opposes the attempt by former President Trump’s legal team to postpone the trial until after the election.
A description of the brief appears on CNN: Jamie Gangel & Jack Forrest, Exclusive: Former Republican legal officials endorse special counsel’s speedy trial date proposal in Trump Jan. 6 case, CNN, Aug. 14, 2023.
The brief was filed on behalf of eleven former judges and senior legal officials, including Alberto Gonzales (former U.S. Attorney General and White House Counsel), J. Michael Luttig (former Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit), Bill Weld (former Governor of Massachusetts), and Stuart Gerson (former Acting U.S. Attorney General). Appearing on the brief are partners Matt Peed and Tim Clinton. The brief was a project of the Democracy 21 Education Fund.
