C&P Helps The Demex Group Close $9 Million Series A Equity Financing
C&P partner, Alec Rosenberg, supported The Demex Group ("Demex") in negotiating and closing its recent $9 Million Series A equity financing. Demex is an emerging insurtech company that delivers climate-resilience through financial risk solutions on a global scale. Mr. Rosenberg has served as Demex's principal legal advisor since its inception, when he advised Founder and CEO, Ed Byrns, in orchestrating the coordinated spinoff, team building, and seed financing transactions through which the company was created.
In 2021, Demex has been focused on developing its proprietary climate and weather analytics driven products. It also launched its DEMEX CLIMATE INDICATOR™, a free public resource for at-a-glance, easy-to-understand analysis of localized climate spanning multiple weather variables (including summer-heat, winter-chill, rainfall, and snowfall). The resource, which includes over 650,000 unique climate assessments, aims to democratize access to this type of data and, in turn, to inform and enable a wide range of climate-based risk transfer transactions.
The Series A funding will help Demex to accelerate platform development, increase its head count, and scale growth. The round was led by financial services and technology investors Anthemis Group, Blue Bear Capital, and QBE Ventures. IA Capital Group also participated.
According to Mr. Byrns:
“Property owners, tenants and managers are typically overlooked by the incumbent weather risk marketplace that focuses on agriculture and energy. Recent advances in cloud computing, big data, and blockchain have enabled us to deliver a simple, secure, and scalable platform that’s specifically designed for climate resiliency. We are thrilled to both retain our investors from the seed round and excited to be joined by Blue Bear Capital and QBE Ventures on our journey creating global climate resilience.”
HolonIQ recently named Demex one of the top 200 Climate Tech companies in North America. Earlier this year, it was inducted into Oxbow Partners “Impact 25” and was recognized as part of the InsurTech Insights “Future 50.”
Consistent with his core "outside GC" practice, Mr. Rosenberg serves as Demex's principal legal advisor, counseling the company and Mr. Byrns on a wide range of intellectual property, corporate governance, commercial transaction, and employment-related matters.
