Greg Lipper Quoted in Economist about Major Supreme Court First Amendment Case
Partner Greg Lipper is quoted in this week’s issue of The Economist, discussing American Legion v. American Humanist Association, a Supreme Court Establishment Clause challenge to a government-sponsored 40-foot Latin cross in Bladensburg, Maryland.
Greg—who filed an amicus brief supporting the challengers—discussed this week’s oral argument and the potential for a compromise, between Chief Justice Roberts and one or more of the Court’s more liberal justices, to uphold the cross on narrow grounds and avoid the “more grievous harm” that would accompany a decision overruling earlier Establishment Clause decisions.
Greg’s practice includes appellate and Supreme Court litigation, First Amendment cases, and criminal defense.
